It is amazing to look back where you were a year ago and compare and contrast where you are at now. Am I really that old now? Did I truly learn to do all of this in the past year?
And it is the same for other areas. I was reflecting on what Herbert has taught in the past few poems and appreciated a new view on some beautiful chapters in the book of Isaiah. Chapter fifty three is commonly known as the passage that foretells much of Christ’s suffering. But the chapter that follows is full of rejoicing. Women who were without children were told to start singing.
“5 For your Maker is your husband,
The Lord of hosts is His name;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel;
He is called the God of the whole earth” (Isaiah 54).
God would make firm foundations for the afflicted. Just like He created the blacksmith, He could prevent the tools of war from having their effect. God was on their side, working for them. And that is so beautiful. Chapter fifty-five continues in the same thread.
“Ho! Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters;
And you who have no money,
Come, buy and eat.”
It is not just an announcement, it is an invitation for people from all nations to serve this God, He will save! And it is such a comfort to hear. That’s how much He loves, and His love is strong!
God, thank You for Your love, for suffering and redeeming us. Thank You for Your work of redemption in this world, and please let it start in my life. Amen.
