Let’s acknowledge the tyrant in the room

Today a good friend shared these verses from 1 Peter 4 with me:

1-2 Since Jesus went through everything you’re going through and more, learn to think like him. Think of your sufferings as a weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way. Then you’ll be able to live out your days free to pursue what God wants instead of being tyrannized by what you want.

I got home from a relaxing weekend and saw a pile of burdens waiting in bills, household chores, world problems, personal disappointment and more. I don’t want to pick all that junk up again! So what are the responsibilities God gave me to care for and what am I trying to take off His shoulders and carry for Him?  Honestly, a two foot tall child should not try to carry her daddy’s full size camp chair. So God, please help me see the difference.

God, every good gift is from You (James 1:17) so please help me recognize the gifts of responsibility and community and shed the things that should stay on Your plate. Thank You for freedom and rest and helping me see. Amen.
