Shocked on sight

Sometimes it feels like my life is a spiral…going downhill. What good does it do to perform the same tasks day in and day out? Does it make a difference in the end or change anything? In Leviticus 8-9, Moses carried out the instructions for initiating his brother and nephews as priests in Israel. Each little step was carried out precisely. And they knew God was there, speaking, working, moving. They had already seen that in Egypt and as they started their wilderness journey. But God’s response still left them shocked! It says in Leviticus 9, “24 And fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the pieces of fat on the altar, and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.”

It is startling to look around and see where God is working. Often it is just a matter of having your eyes opened. God, I want that. I want to see what You are doing. It won’t always be in a burst of lighting. But I want to recognize where You are at work in the mundane details. And I want to be praising You in the meantime, because even when I can’t see it, I know You are at work. Thank You, God. I love You! Amen.
